How To Get Your Hands On A Bargain Vehicle At Federal Auto Auctions
Federal auto auctions can be an amazing source of cheap vehicles, both for trade buyers and for individuals shopping for a private vehicle. Not only that, but they can allow you to pick up some very unusual models, many of them unique. A large number of vehicles seized by the federal government have either been used in crime, or were adapted with the intention of being used in a crime. Often, the engine will have been greatly enhanced, and in some cases the vehicle will have hidden compartments designed for the moving of drugs. If you wish to pick up a vehicle with some unique or rare features, a federal auto auction may be just the place to look.
Most other vehicles will have been repossessed for far more ordinary reasons. Often, it will simply be because the owner has been unable to pay their tax bill. During the current economic crisis , this is becoming increasingly common. Often, a business will have earned reasonable money during the boom times which happened earlier in the decade, and accrued a tax bill which needs to be paid. Now, that business will be suffering a dramatic drop in income, and the money to pay the bill is simply not forthcoming.
These repossessed car sales had, until in more recent times, been almost exclusively the preserve of dealers in the motor vehicles trade. They were not keen to see their private gravy train exposed to the public. Recently, business opportunity publications have latched on to the fact that they can publicize these auctions as a business opportunity, so they have gained a higher profile. It is easy for a magazine writer to find one genuine isolated incident where a vehicle has fetched an abnormally low price, and then to tell the world that this is what is possible.
This of course, although is perfectly possible, it is extremely rare. It is certainly not possible to build a sustainable business by looking for freak one-off events which may be caused by such factors as extreme bad weather, or an event being advertised on the wrong date – it has happened before. Despite this, these seized car sales remain a good source of cheap vehicles, provided you are prepared to put the time in to do enough research to be sure of prevailing values.
Federal auto auctions contain cars, vans and trucks which have been seized, and which the government is anxious to get rid themselves of. As such, no maintenance is ever done on these vehicles, and they are sold as is. If you don't have enough knowledge of the working of vehicles to be able to make an accurate assessment of the condition and value of a vehicle, make sure you take the advice of someone who does. Doing this research, and keeping a cool head when bidding, are the keys to succeeding with federal auto auctions.
