Why Bidding At A State Auto Auction Could Save You Money On Your Next Vehicle

A state auto auction is where the state government discards vehicles which it has had to seize in the course of its general operation. These auctions exist because it is too expensive for government to continually hold, maintain, and look after seized vehicles in an attempt to realize the highest prize that the market can offer. It actually involves the government in less expense to sell the vehicle comfortably below market price than it does to hold out for top dollar, at the expense of storage space and worker time.

This type of government car auction opens up many opportunities for businesses and private individuals to source great value vehicles. In the past, these auctions were nearly always attended exclusively by members of the motor trade. Now, business opportunity magazines and newsletters have brought these auctions to the attention of the general public. There are far more people attending these auctions looking for a one-off deal than there ever used to be. This can result in vehicles going for higher prices, as a private individual looking for his own vehicle is always going to be prepared to pay more than a trader looking to profit.

Alot of the vehicles sold at state car auctions will have characteristics that may seem unusual, because they would have been modified by previous owners for criminal activity. They may have been used as getaway vehicles, or at least have been intended to be used as getaway vehicles. If you are looking to buy a vehicle which has an extremely powerful engine at a bargain price, this type of auction may give you exactly what you need.

Many state auto auctions also commonly have vehicles that have been seized for financial reasons. There have always been cases where people have stretched themselves financially in an attempt to maintain a dream vehicle. When the payments are not maintained, the lender has to take back the vehicle. These lenders have the same problem as governments have in that it costs them money and time to install and maintain the vehicles. These institutions also have an incentive to sell the vehicle at a lower price than they could achieve if they were prepared to wait.

If you go along to a state government auction looking to pick up a bargain, you will need to be careful, patient and selective. You also need to be flexible in the type of make, model, and specifications you are looking for. The greater the range of vehicles you are prepared to accept, the more likely it is that one of these vehicles will sell for a price comfortably below market value. Make sure you do your research in advance, set the price for each vehicle at which you will stop bidding, and stick to those prices. Do this, and you can pick up a bargain vehicle at state auto auction.
